Met Police were called to Dunbar Lane, close to the Upton Lane junction, at 6.07pm yesterday evening, after reports shots had been fired.
Officers attended the scene and a cordon was put in place. There were no reports of any injuries.
No arrests have been made but enquiries continue.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about those responsible, to come forward.
They are particularly keen to trace a black Ford C-Max with roof bars that was seen in the area at the time of the incident.
