A restaurant in Barking has been ordered to close for breaching Covid-19 rules.

Sweet London, on Longbridge Road, was also issued with a £10,000 fine after more than 25 people were found to be congregating in a wooden structure.

Enforcement officers visited the restaurant on 23 April and discovered customers sharing food and failing to maintain social-distancing.

They were also sharing Shisha, the sale of which is prohibited until 21 June.

Andy Opie, Operational Director for Enforcement and Community Safety said, “It’s a shame that this business has decided to go against the rules, especially as they can now operate with a bit more leniency.

“As restrictions ease, we will continue to work closely with local businesses to make sure they’re following the rules and operating safely by providing advice and guidance.

“But if they don’t work with us, we will take the necessary enforcement action.”

The Metropolitan Police currently have additional patrols in busy areas to protect locals and disrupt any criminal activity.

Superintendent Jude Beehag Fisher said, “While the case rate has declined in London, we have seen the concerning position in northern Europe and India.

“It is important that we all stick to the rules so further lockdowns, or restrictions, are avoided.”

Sweet London received a Direction Order on 27 April and must remain closed for two weeks unless significant improvements are made.
