Emergency services were called at 3.22am to reports of a collision at the Ripple Road junction with the A13.
On arrival, they found a car in collision with “street furniture”.
The driver, a 25-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a male and female passenger have been taken to hospital.
Their injuries are not life-threatening.
No arrests have been made but police are investigating the circumstances around the collision.
