Deadline approaching to give your thoughts on Romford Masterplan

The plans will shape the future of the town centre

The deadline is nearing to give your thoughts on a long-term plan for Romford.

Havering Council is asking for feedback on its latest Romford Masterplan proposal, with the responses needed by next Sunday.

The Masterplan sets out the vision for how the town should be developed, with the idea helping to set out parametres for future investment.

The plan has six key aims: to improve the market, enhance public realm spaces such as South Street and Victoria Road, upgrade the train station, modify the ring road, recharacterise housing with new streets comprised of smaller blocks, and introduce new green spaces to the town.

It also mentions having an evening economy based on food and drink, increasing the number of jobs in the area, and maintaining Romford’s position as a shopping destination, with an emphasis on local goods and services.

The plan also references a “new residential community supported by additional health and school facilities.”

The council has been asking residents for their views since January.

Last Saturday, a public exhibition was held at The Liberty Shopping Centre to show people what the town could look like and get their views.

There are now just nine days to give your opinions on the plans, which can be viewed here.

There is then a feedback form which can be filled in to let the council know what you think. It must be submitted by Sunday, 22 September.

In the coming months, the current plan will be refined based on the feedback received.

A draft document will then be publicised for residents to give their views on again, as part of a formal consultation.
