Man arrested after police officer hit by vehicle in South Ockendon

Police were initially called to Buckles Lane, where a caravan was on fire

A 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer in South Ockendon.

Police were called to reports of gunshots heard at an address in Buckles Lane at around 9.50pm yesterday.

There was no evidence that shots had been fired but a caravan was alight.

Officers who were at the address then became aware of a collision involving a vehicle and a fellow police officer.

They were not seriously injured.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “A 64 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and is currently in custody.

“If you saw anything, have any CCTV, dash cam or mobile phone footage, or any other information please call us on 101 quoting incident 1328 of 25 May.

“Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
