It comes following a report of a sexual assault in South Woodford on Monday afternoon.
Police were called at 17:00 on Monday, 18 October after a woman, aged in her 20s, was approached by a man at Granville Road who then sexually assaulted her.
The victim was able to get away but the man remained at the scene, exposing himself before he began to commit an indecent act.
Once the police were called the man walked away.
Officers attended and undertook a patrol of the local area, they located a man who was able to evade capture.
Following enquires with the local police, they identified the suspect as a 16-year-old male.
He was arrested at an address in Redbridge on suspicion of sexual assault and indecent exposure, he was taken to an east London police station before being released on bail to return late in November.
Enquiries are continuing, police would like to ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the police quoting 5342/18OCT.
