We spoke to Brock Whiston three weeks ago, who told us she needed help to achieve her Paralympic dream after the games were postponed by 12 months due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
The extra year of training has been compounded by the difficulty in getting time in the gym and swimming pool now that leisure centres have to abide by social distancing rules.
Brock holds four swimming world records and also won four gold medals at the 2019 World Championships in London.
After Time 107.5FM covered the story, JFF Security & Solutions got in touch and the company has now donated a set of weights and a squat rack to Brock to help her train.
The security company joins Brock’s existing sponsor, Hawkins and Sons Butchers, and Brock hopes their backing will help her compete for the gold medal in Tokyo next summer.
“You’ve got to take each day as it comes, but I know 100 percent every day I’m going to be putting everything I can into my sport,” Brock said. “Without these amazing people, the journey is not possible.
“Now I’ve got these two amazing sponsors, they’re on that journey with me and I can’t wait to share that journey and, hopefully, the rewards and success at the end of it.”
Scott Squibb, from JFF Security & Solutions said: “[Brock] is a local girl, she’s trying to reach her dream and if we can help her try and do that, then we’re more than happy to provide her with equipment or something that she needs so she can still achieve her dream and keep her training going.
“Everyone needs a helping hand every now and again. We’ve had a helping hand and why not repay it back to someone that needs the help to keep their dream alive?”
Scott is also encouraging others to help support Brock.
“Get in contact with her, go and have a chat with her,” Scott said. “Her excitement, her passion, it does rub off on you once you’ve spoken to her and her mum.
JFF Security & Solutions says it will continue supporting Brock and has already pledged to buy her a new treadmill and cross trainer.
Hawkins and Sons Butchers has also contributed money to Brock, as well as giving her all of her meat for free.
You can hear more from Brock Whiston on the Time 107.5 Sport Show, which returns tonight at 7pm.
