He was reportedly damaging property and attacking members of the public in Buckles Lane at around 4.20pm on Thursday, 18 August.
Officers were called to the scene and found him “acting aggressively”. They deployed a taser and detained him.
The man later became unwell and was taken to hospital. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
Essex Police have reported the incident to the Independent Office of Police Conduct which they say is standard practice in incidents like this.
Anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident has been asked to contact them by calling 101 and quoting incident 829 of 18 August.
