One of the biggest UK pop bands of the 90s, East 17, will be headlining the event in Market Place from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Thursday, 17 November.
The line-up will feature original member Terry Coldwell and former Artful Dodger collaborator Robbie Craig.
They’ll be performing the group’s 1994 Christmas number one ‘Stay Another Day’ as well as hits from their eighteen top-twenty singles and four top-ten albums.
Several other performers will also be gracing the stage, including the Razzmatazz Theatre School, the 90s Show, Harold Hill vocalist Miss Morgan and Rise Park swing-singer Mark Walker.
Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch will also be treating audiences to a preview of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ their Christmas pantomime for this year.
The lights will be switched on at 6.30pm following a firework finale.
“The festive lights switch-on at Romford Market Place is such a highlight in the Havering calendar and is when Christmas gets fully underway in the borough,” said the leader of Havering Council, Ray Morgon.
“I hope everyone comes along to enjoy the entertainment and fireworks as we count down to Christmas in Havering.
“My thanks to Romford BID, Razzmatazz Theatre Schools and Time 107.5 FM for supporting this year’s festivities.”
The event is the first of a number of Christmas light switch-on taking place across the borough in the run-up to the holidays.
It is being sponsored by Romford BID and supported by Razzmatazz Theatre Schools.
