Met Police officer charged with assaulting child in Brentwood

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with assaulting a child in Brentwood earlier this year.

PC Paul Bewsey allegedly assaulted the 14-year-old while he was off-duty in Hanging Hill Lane on 21 April 2022.

He was charged with common assault by postal requisition following an investigation by Essex Police.

The officer is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 24 November.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and Bewsey is on restricted duties.
