Havering Council say winter road crews were out Monday evening into the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, 13 December) to ensure safety on the borough’s roads.
This was prior to another freezing night with snow, ice and fog warnings in place across parts of England, northern Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Around 80 tonnes of salt was used to grit main roads in the area over the weekend.
The Council’s winter service standby arrangements started on Tuesday, 1 November with crews continuing to salt roads as necessary.
There’s nearly 2,000 tonnes of salt in the borough’s resources.
Street cleaning crews have been out since early yesterday morning (Monday, 12 December) salting pavements near sheltered housing, bus stops, town centres and schools that remain open plus other busy main areas.
Havering Council say waste collections are continuing as scheduled, but there may be some delays because of the snowy weather.
Advice to residents is to only travel if necessary at this time.

Leader of Havering Council, Councillor Ray Morgon said: “Our service teams have been out there in all hours making sure roads are gritted, pavements are cleared and salted as much as possible across the borough for our residents.
“The advice at the moment is to not travel unless it’s really necessary and to keep a check on any service updates on our website and social media platforms, as well looking at the national travel and weather updates.
“There is also plenty of information on how to keep safe and warm, please make sure you check on any vulnerable relatives and neighbours and keep yourselves safe.”
