Cllr Linda Hawthorn passed away earlier this year
Cllr Hawthorn passed away on Friday, 19 May after representing the ward as a Havering Residents Association member for more than 30 years.
The by-election to vote for a new councillor in Upminster will take place on Thursday, 10 August with polling stations open from 7am-10pm.
Residents not already on the electoral register have until Tuesday, 25 July to register online.
This will be the first election in Havering where voter ID will now be required at polling stations.
Under new rules, residents without a valid form of photo ID will not be able to vote.
Havering Council says if residents don’t have an acceptable form of photo ID, they can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate for this election. Applications can be made online or by post. For a paper application, voters can contact the elections office on 01708 432444.
Residents who want to vote by post must apply by 5pm on Wednesday, 26 July.
Polling cards will be delivered to all eligible voters.
