Officers who were dealing with an unrelated incident found the 21-year-old victim unresponsive in Western Road, on Saturday, 2 September.
The victim had been walking in the street after a night out with friends when he had a brief interaction with another man.
The man then assaulted him before making off.
Emergency services took the victim to hospital where he remains. He’s suffered a broken nose and head injuries.
The victim’s next of kin are aware.
Havering police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
The suspect is described as being around 20 to 25 years old, with short curly hair on top with shaved sides. He was also wearing dark trousers and a purple hoodie.
There have been no arrests made.
