Body found in lake at Raphaels Park during search for missing elderly man

The body of a man, believed to be missing William Shrubsole, has been found in a lake in a Romford park.

Officers discovered the body in Raphaels Park at around 10.40am this morning (Wednesday, 8 November).

The 96-year-old had disappeared from his home in Millbrook Gardens at around 10.30pm on Saturday night (Saturday, 4 November).

In a statement, Havering Police said: “We are awaiting formal identification, but believe sadly that it is the body of a 96 year-old man William Shrubsole who has been missing since Saturday.

“His next of kin have been informed and we ask you to respect their privacy at this time. At this stage, the death is being treated as nonsuspicious.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

“We would like to thank the local community who supported the investigating team with the appeal and searches of the area to try and find him.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this time.”
