London Fire Brigade tackled a fire in Barking
The fire which produced large plumes of smoke broke out just before 1pm today (Thursday, 18 January) in River Road.
Several vehicles and around 50 tonnes of scrap metal was alight. A gas cylinder at the scene was cooled to an ambient temperature as some can explode when exposed to heat.
No one is believed to injured.
Crews from Plaistow, Dagenham, Millwall and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
People in the area are being advised to keep windows and doors closed. Members of the public are also being asked to avoid the area whilst firefighters work to bring the fire under control.
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters have been called to a fire on River Road in #Barking.

The London Fire Brigade said they received 14 calls about the fire.
It was brought under control by around 2.40pm. The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
