Around 70 firefighters were called to the parish church on St Andrews Road at around 12.30am last night (Thursday, 11 April) after the building went up in flames.
Ten fire engines alongside firefighters from across Dagenham, Ilford, Hainault and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
Part of the ground floor, first floor and the buildings roof were damaged by the fire. One of the Brigade’s 32m ladders was deployed to the scene, allowing crews to attack the fire from above.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Residents in the area were advised to keep doors and windows closed as crews responded after the fire produced a large amount of smoke.
The fire was under control by 3am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade.
