Goher Ayub appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, 22 February, where he was found guilty of rape.
The victim – a woman known to him – contacted police in another force area in 2020 to report that Ayub had raped her between 2010 and 2011.
Detectives set about building a case, carrying out a number of painstaking enquiries including witness and medical evidence.
In December 2020, Ayub was interviewed and the strength of police evidence led to him being charged in April 2023.
The 43-year-old was sentenced at Inner Crown Court on Friday, 19 April to six years in prison.
Detective Constable, Matt Trenfield-Brown said: “This case is an example that no matter how many years have passed, we can achieve justice for terrible crimes.
“We worked tirelessly with colleagues from another force, and the Crown Prosecution Service, to build a case against Ayub. As a result he will now spend years behind bars.
“He was also issued a restraining order and must sign the Sex Offenders Register for life on his release.
“We’re very grateful to the victim for her courage in reporting Ayub.”
