Barking and Dagenham College offer free visors for local care homes and doctors surgeries

Curriculum Team Leader for Creative Arts, Cenk Cevizli helped to create the design

Barking & Dagenham College are offering to make visors to donate to local care homes, doctors surgeries and other similar facilities.

Staff and students decided to help make the equipment for organisations struggling to get PPE for their employees.

Due to the institution running virtually, the site has a range of technical equipment used for courses such as its 3D design course, which aren’t in use at the moment.

This inspired staff to make use of the 3D printer etc. to produce the face shields/visors.

Curriculum Manager for Creative Industries, Paul Schofield and Curriculum Team Leader for Creative Arts, Cenk Cevizli designed the template for the model over a few hours.

Paul told Time 107.5: “We did alot of preparation last Friday on putting the plastics together, making sure the screens were cut etc.

“We’ve got a number of people operating on different parts of the visor so we’re almost doing it collectively but we’re doing it in bits, piece by piece.”

“We have a fully functional 3D-design area which has good base of machinery, a work tool shop, a laser printer and 3D printer, so we decided to look at all of the local needs for protective clothing.”

“We are trying to function as best as we can and be as creative as possible.”

Paul explained: “We have the parts and they are pre-cut ready for assembly.

“We are ready to ‘mass produce’ them later this week and would welcome any local organisations that would benefit to please contact us on Paul.Schofield@bdc.ac.uk.”
