It follows the recent launch of the Barking and Dagenham Macular Society Support Group, which has been setup to offer emotional and practical support and a space for people with a visual impairment to socialise.
Speakers from leading sight loss charity the Macular Society and RNIB will be joined by the local sensory services team, as well as clinical experts from Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Around 300 people are diagnosed with macular disease every day and it is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK.
It can affect people of any age but not much is known about why, and there is still no cure.
The Macular Society funds research to help find a cure, or find treatments that prevent it.
The Barking and Dagenham sight loss event will take place on Wednesday 23 August 10am-1pm in the conference room of the Barking Learning Centre.
