Police officer struck by car during A12 chase in Redbridge

A police officer remains in hospital after he was struck by a vehicle earlier this week

A police officer’s in hospital after he was struck by a car during a police pursuit in Redbridge.

Officers attempted to stop a grey Lexus on the A12 at the Barley Lane junction in Little Heath at around 4.45pm on Tuesday, 6 August.

The vehicle failed to stop and a chase broke out and as part of efforts to stop the vehicle, officers set up a ‘stinger site’.

The driver of the Lexus is believed to have mounted the pavement before colliding with one of the officers.

Emergency services took the officer to hospital where he continues to receive treatment for non life threatening injuries.

The suspect drove from the scene and his car was found abandoned on the Kings Mead estate in Hackney.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Potter said: “We need your help to identify the person who was driving this car.

“Did you see it between the A12 and where it was found in Hackney? Officers managed to smash one of the car’s windows and this would have been visible to anyone who saw it.

“Our colleague was injured while trying to keep the public safe from a reckless and dangerous driver. Please help us to find him. No one should be hurt while simply doing their job.”
