A road in Rush Green was closed after a house was struck by lightning and set alight.
Firefighters were called to Dagenham Road just before 2pm today.
They put the blaze out by 4.30pm but the home’s stairs were destroyed.
In a statement, London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers attended a house fire in Dagenham Road, Rush Green.
“The staircase from ground to first floor was destroyed by fire. Part of the ground floor and part of the loft conversion were also damaged by fire.”
Heavy rain and lightning has caused lots of damage across east London and Essex.
A house in Romford was struck by lightning on Saturday evening.
Last night in Collier Row, two maisonettes were damaged by a blaze too.
Roads have been flooded and there is a lot of traffic on the A12, the A406, the M11 and parts of the M25.
