Insulate Britain has been causing disruptions on the M25
Their most recent demonstrations took place yesterday, October 13, when around 40 protestors blocked the M25 between junction 31 for Lakeside and the Dartford Crossing as well as London Road.
Yesterday’s demonstration was the 13th time within the past four weeks that they have encroached on a major road.
Essex Police arrested 35 people who blocked the roads in yesterdays incident.
They have risked prison after a court granted National Highways an injunction which has banned them from the areas where they have been protesting.
The group is calling for the government to make Britain’s homes greener and to prevent winter deaths caused by the cold weather.
Today, in a letter to the Prime Minister, they have said that they will be temporarily halting their “campaign of civil resistance” until October 25.
Members of the group attempted to hand deliver the letter to Mr. Johnson but were turned away. They say they shall be sending him a copy in the post.
The letter says the “collapse of the climate is happening around us” and claims we face the “breakdown of law and order in a matter of years”.
The group say that they are suspending their protests ahead of the Cop26 climate conference in Glasgow which runs between October 31 to November 12.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: “Sitting on roads & preventing everyone else from going about their lawful business is downright dangerous & counterproductive. Rather than apologising to the motorist now and returning in a week & a half, they must call off their reckless campaign forever.”
