Prince Isaac Walker, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court where he was sentenced to 26 weeks imprisonment.
Officers were made aware that a nurse had been assaulted in the A&E department after attending the hospital in the early hours of Thursday, 21 January.
The 36 year-old female nurse required treatment after losing consciousness following the assault but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Officers quickly detained and arrested Mr Walker before taking him to an east London police station where he was charged with assault on an emergency worker.
The investigating officer, PC Kyri Soupashis, said: “This was a needlessly vicious attack on an emergency worker simply doing her job. I hope that the sentence handed down brings the victim a measure of satisfaction and that she is able to recover from what was a very frightening experience.
“There is no justification for assaulting the people who devote their working lives to helping and protecting others, something that Walker will have time to reflect on as he serves his sentence.”
