Murder investigation launched after teenager stabbed at Stratford Broadway

A murder investigation has been launched after a 15-year-old schoolboy was fatally stabbed outside Stratford Broadway.

Police were called to reports of the stabbing near Tramway Avenue yesterday afternoon at 3.20pm.

The London Ambulance Service attended to the victim who was found with critical injuries however he was pronounced dead at the scene at 3.50pm.

The stabbing is believed to be the result of an altercation that took place shortly after the schoolboy alighted a bus very close to Stratford Shopping Centre.

The victim’s friends came to his aid and members of the public provided first aid at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

A second teenager, aged 15, was also found with stab injuries and remains in an east London hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

No arrests have been made. Enquiries, including reviews of local CCTV footage and forensic analysis are on going. 

A crime scene remains in place.

A Section 60 also remains in place for the whole of Newham borough as a result of this incident. 

Homicide detectives from Specialist Crime will be leading the investigation.

DCI Chris Soole, who is leading the investigation said: “First and foremost are thoughts are with this young man’s family and friends. They so tragically are having to come to terms with this terrible loss of life.

 “The victim of this stabbing was a schoolboy with his whole life ahead of him. He had everything to live for.

“This was a senseless attack and we share the concern and alarm this murder will no doubt cause in the local community. We will do everything we can to catch those involved and bring them to justice.”
