So-called “one-stop shops” aimed at speeding up cancer diagnosis are being trialled across England for the first time.
The initative by NHS England, Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support, is being run in ten areas including at Queen’s Hospital in Romford and east London Royal Free Hospital.
It will allow patients to undergo tests for all types of cancer under one roof.
It could prevent them having to spend months going to see different specialists for multiple symptoms.
GPs can refer patients with “vague” symptoms including unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain and fatigue to assessment centres for tests.
