Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy has responded to the murder Jaden Moodie by saying youth violence is a disease that needs to be dealt with.
The 14-year-old was knocked off his moped by a car and then stabbed in Bickley Road on Tuesday night.
The MP says, “I really urge people not speculate about the young people at the heart of this online because you can image the distress that this must be causing to the families and also because we have to get this right, we have to get dealing with this disease of youth violence right.”
“I want to reassure residents in Walthamstow that this has been and continues to be an absolute top priority for me, to lobby for and shout for the resources that we need for our community but also to recognise the many things that are driving it.”
The MP has met with MET commissioner Cressida Dick to talk about her concerns and written to Matt Hancock, the Secretary of State for Health about the need to provide better support to children not in mainstream education, saying intervention is needed to save lives to break the cycle of violence.
Tributes have been paid to Jaden, Josh Grant is a close family friend: “He was bubbly in life, a little cheeky chappy, he was a good kid. We did all sorts together, with my step son at the minute they grew up together going back 10 years ago. so they would have both been three or four at the time, it’s sad times.”
Police have recovered a black Mercedes they believe was involved but are still looking for three male suspects.
50 extra police were on duty in the area on Tuesday night in response to the situation.
